Heart-tugger about the three Waterbury children, who must move to a small village and live in reduced circumstances with their mother (Agutter) when their father (Kitchen) is wrongfully imprisoned. The threesome spend much of their time by the railroad with its stationmaster (Russell) and a kindly railroad tycoon (Attenborough), who takes an interest in their situation. Based on the novel by Edith Nesbitt. Agutter played the role of the eldest daughter in the 1970 film version.
