Harper leads an excellent cast in this story of Alex, a man imprisoned for a rape he may not have committed who only seeks the acceptance and love of his family. Through visits with his estranged, successful brother (Obatunde), his loving mother (Gibbs), and his disapproving father (Williams), as well as a prison psychiatrist (Rashad) and a childhood friend (Chong), Alex finds the peace he seeks. Yes, it sounds hokey, but the excellent performances and steady, subtle direction make it all work. The parole board scene is a highlight.
