Cartoon Crazys: Banned & Censored Movie Review 2000

The main value in this collection lies in its brief history of the Hays Office and motion picture censorship, and in its revelation of the racism that was so widespread in America and in the movie business. Beyond the casual slurs aimed at black characters, the sexual innuendo is mild by contemporary standards. The 13 cartoons are in desperate need of restoration, though it's difficult to see why anyone would bother. The official objection to one Betty Boop cartoon is "making it appropriate and portraying positive the drugging of the entire city of New York without their knowledge or approval."
