This film is a series of discussions about race and other matters. Very little happens beyond people talking to, at, and around each other. At the center is a conversation between Mike (Perrineau) and his friend Richard (DeSando) about a speech that Mike is supposed to write for his girlfriend Nicole (Swift), a teacher. Mike is black; Richard and Nicole are white. Director Hall is more interested in the areas of accommodation and understanding than in confrontation, and throughout he displays a strong sense of humor.
