Poignant, yet pointless examination of the annual trek of the Bakhtiari nomads from their winter pastures in southwestern Iran through the Zardeh Kuh mountain range to their summer pastures. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary in 1976 (losing to "Harlan County U.S.A."), the film depicts the timeless struggle for survival of Bakhtiari people. It takes on deeper meaning when one realizes that their land was the focal point of the devastating war in the 1980s between Iran and neighboring Iraq.
