Irish newcomer Farrell made a big (and deserved) splash as Army draftee Roland Bozz, one of a group of grunts at the final stage of infantry training at Fort Polk, Louisiana in 1971. The title refers to the wilderness area designed for jungle combat simulation before the newbies are shipped out to Nam. But the rebellious, cynical Bozz gets away with defying every rule thrown at him to the disbelief of the others in the platoon. Familiar story but the ensemble cast is right on the mark and director Schumacher keeps tight control in this old-fashioned low-budget drama.
