Anthology features the stories of three lesbian couples in America. "1961" shows the sedate lives of retired schoolteachers Edith (Redgrave) and Abby (Seldes), who have lived together for decades. But when Abby suddenly dies, Edith discovers she will be dispossesed by Abby's greedy nephew. "1972" finds Linda (Williams) living with a group of lesbian feminists who disapprove of butch-femme couples. But Linda is still drawn to the butch Amy (Sevigny), who refuses to apologize for how she chooses to live. "2000" has thirtysomething couple Fran (Stone) and Kal (DeGeneres) deciding to have a baby and having some comical problems with the sperm issue.
