Bio of French writer Honore de Balzac (1799-1850)--a larger-then-life figure played by the larger-than-life Depardieu. He has mom problems (she never loved him) and turns to women who encourage him as his writing consumes him. There are balls and duels and all sorts of high and low society life during the Napoleonic era to enjoy. French with subtitles.
