Angela (Pickford) is a lighthouse keeper in Italy who's awaiting her soldier brother's return from war. Instead, she learns of his death. When a wounded soldier is washed ashore, Angela rescues him and nurses him back to health, thinking he's an American sailor. They fall in love and marry before she learns that he's really a German spy and may have killed her brother. There's a lot more tragedy before Angela finds happiness. One of Pickford's rare adult roles.
