A nameless fugitive (Lynch) accepts a ride from a minister, whom he accidentally kills. He takes over the man's identity and possessions and journeys to the minister's new posting in a nearby isolated South African town. When his goods are in turn stolen by a poor young black man, Valentine, the town's racist white police chief not only arrests Valentine for the theft but links him to the murder when the minister's body is discovered. The original fugitive is consumed by guilt but will justice prevail? Based on the novel by Damon Galgut. English and Afrikaans with subtitles.
