At the theatre, Poirot is smitten by actress Jane Wilkinson and is persuaded to visit her estranged husband, Lord Edgeware, and urge him to consider her request for a divorce. Within 24 hours of Poirot's visit, Edgeware is murdered and Chief Inspector Japp thinks Jane is his best suspect. But Poirot discovers several others also wanted the aristocrat dead.
