Spanish nobleman Alonso Quijano of La Mancha (Lithgow) decides to dedicate himself to chivalry. With his sanity in question, he dubs himself a knight errant--becoming Don Quixote--picks up sidekick Sancho Panza (Hoskins), and finds his lady fair--washerwoman Dulcinea (Williams). Episodic retelling has a number of familiar touches (including windmill-tilting) but doesn't add up to much, although the Spanish scenery is a plus. Based on Miguel de Cervantes' 1605 novel.
