John Sawyer (Mason) is an alcoholic retired attorney who has lived in seclusion since his wife left him. His estranged daughter, Angela (Chaplin), runs with a swinging crowd and her boyfriend, Jo (Bertoya), is accused of killing another member of their group. So daddy comes to the rescue to defend him and expose the real killer. Mason is the only reason to watch this mishmash. Based on the Georges Simenon's novel "Stranger in the House" and previously filmed in 1942.
