On the Ropes Movie Review 1999

Filmmakers Burstein and Morgen attempt to do with boxing what the producers of Hoop Dreams did with basketball, but on a smaller scale. Their subject is trainer Harry Keitt, who runs the New Bud-Stuy Boxing Center, where he works with three young would-be fighters: George Walton, Noel Santiago, and a woman, Tyrene Manson. They face various problems and are working toward the 1997 Golden Gloves Tournament.
