Mesmer Movie Review 1994

Rickman gives a bravura performance in the title role of controversial 18th-century Austrian doctor Franz Anton Mesmer, who put the term "mesmerize" in the dictionary. This court (in Vienna and Paris) physician's unorthodox healing practices were concerned with filtering out negative magnetism through hypnotism and positive thinking. Was he a charlatan or merely a man ahead of his time?
