Two unsuccessful career criminals (Phillippe and Del Toro) take up kidnapping and hold a surrogate mother (Lewis) for ransom. Only the parents-to-be are mobbed up and send two thugs (Diggs and Katt) and a philosophical enforcer (Caan) to get her back unharmed. McQuarrie shows that he still has the knack for twisty plots, surprise revelations, and cool dialogue, but he lets the proceedings drag on a little longer than they need to. He's also not shy about heaping on the violence and crude language (which isn't necessarily bad, just consider yourself forewarned).
