When a movie is shelved for a year and a half, there's usually a reason. Earth in 2079 is dystopian and paranoid, and the neon-blue cave lighting makes it difficult to see. Which is not a huge loss. Talented cast is reduced to a collection of archetypes, including the usually solid Sinise as an elite military scientist accused of fighting (as a replicant) for the wrong team, namely, the sinister aliens who are laying waste to our earth. Citizens are monitored via spinal identification chips, yet a hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses are enough to shield public enemy #1 from detection. Tired sci-fi themes of soul and identity are not enough to keep things interesting. Adapted (and yawningly stretched) from a short story by perennial sci-fi source Philip K. Dick.
