Love, etc. Movie Review 1996

Another messy romantic triangle played for both comedy and tragedy. Shy, thirtysomething bank employee Benoit (Attal) takes out a personal ad, but supplies a picture of his egocentric best friend Pierre (Berling) instead of his own. He meets twentysomething art restorer Marie (Gainsbourg) and, despite the deception and the fact that she's not swept away by romantic passion, Marie marries him. Then Benoit discovers that Pierre thinks he's in love with Marie and has decided to win her away--and she's torn by the attention. Based on the novel "Taking It Over" by Julian Barnes. French with subtitles.
