Effective thriller based on the play by Emlyn Williams. Wheelchair-bound grand dame Mrs. Branson (Whitty) hires personable Danny (Montgomery) as a handyman for the cottage she lives in with niece, Olivia (Russell). Danny is, of course, too good to be true. He's a creepy killer after moolah, which Olivia discerns but does nothing about until he strikes again. Oh yeah, he also keeps a suspicious hatbox in his room. Remade in 1964 with Albert Finney as the killer.
