Wang (Xu) is an elderly street performer in 1930s China who practices the ancient art of face-changing with masks. Tradition has it that he pass his secrets to a male heir, which Wang doesn't have. So, he decides to purchase a boy child on the black market, only to later discover that his clever protege (Ren-ying) is actually a little girl. Chinese with subtitles.
