On November 14, 1960, six-year-old Ruby Bridges (Monet) became the first black student to integrate the New Orleans public school system. She started her first day of first grade classes at William Frantz Elementary School escorted by four federal marshals, enduring hostile crowds and death threats because of her mother Lucielle's (Rochon) desire for her daughter to get an equal education despite what the Bridges family would endure.
