It seems only fitting that French TV produced this zestful miniseries version of the 1844 novel by Dumas pere. Depardieu obviously is enjoying himself in the lead role of Edmond Dantes, who is unjustly imprisoned for 20 years. After his escape, he discovers a fortune and uses it to get revenge as he adopts a fictional identity as the Count of Monte Cristo. Overwrought, over-the-top and lots of fun. Depardieu's daughter Julie and son Guillaume both have roles. French with subtitles.
