Praise Movie Review 1998

First-time director Curran scores big with this downbeat sex-and-drugs saga. Gordan (Fenton) has quit his convenience store job to spend his time drinking with his mates in his grubby Brisbane apartment. Former co-worker Cynthia (Holder) invites Gordon to her parents' empty house where the duo spend their time with various chemical substances, alcohol, and sex. They wind up sticking together out of mutual need and never rise above their marginal existence. Still, both director and actors deliver a powerful production. Adapted from the novel by McGahan, who wrote the screenplay.
