Aging Reggie (Finney) and Roy (Courtenay) meet in a hospital waiting room after their wives have just died. The odd couple (Reggie is blustery ex-military while Roy was a milkman) are further thrown together when a social worker suggests that both should share Reggie's house to help with chores and expenses (and neither man is used to living alone). The rest of the subdued drama is their adjustment to each other and their new situations with flashbacks to their younger selves. Based on the novel by Angela Carter. Finney and Courtenay starred together in 1983's "The Dresser."
