Danielstown is an Anglo-Irish estate located in County Cork in 1920--just four years after the Irish rebellion of 1916. Sir Richard (Gambon) and his wife, Lady Myra (Smith), have a houseful of guests, including Richard's overly romantic young niece Lois (Hawes), who's flirting with British officer, Gerald Colthurst (Tennant). But Lois has also taken to frequently visiting an old mill--where Irish guerilla fighter Peter (Lydon) is hiding out. Based on the novel by Elizabeth Bowen; first-time film director Warner is best known for her long career in the theatre.
