Dry adaptation of August Strindberg's 1889 banned-in-Sweden play about the turbulent relationship between an imperious young noblewoman and an ambitious servant. Neurotic Miss Julie (Burrows), restless and bored, strides into the servants' kitchen and begin ordering about her father's footman, Jean (Mullan). Their upstairs/downstairs division deteriorates into a series of psycho/sexual clashes over an evening where mutual loathing, humiliation, and self-destruction are the only means of communication.
