Based on the true story of the Confederate submarine that was used to defend Charleston harbor against Union forces in 1864. The experimental craft has already claimed the lives of two crews but General Beauregard (Sutherland) is desperate to break the blockade of the city and gives command to Lt. George E. Dixon (Assante), an engineer. As usual, Dixon's crew is a ragged bunch of misfits but Dixon perseveres.
