Campy excess (and lots of gore) overwhelms Gaston Leroux's often-filmed chiller. This Phantom (Sands) doesn't have a facial disfigurement and goes unmasked but he's weird nonetheless. Abandoned as a baby, he's raised by rats (ewwww) beneath the Paris Opera where he becomes smitten by young singer, Christine (Argento), and does his best to make her his alone.
