In 1945, the dedicated Dr. Akagi (Emoto) is more worried about a hepatitis epidemic in his seaside village that the Japanese wartime defeat. He becomes obsessed with finding a cure and assembles a ragtag group of compatriots to assist him, including a teenaged prostitute and an escaped Dutch prisoner of war. Based on the novel "Dr. Liver" by Ango Sakaguchi. Japanese with subtitles.
