Ryder stars as neurotic 18-year-old Susanna who, after making a half-hearted suicide attempt, is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. So, in 1967, she's sent to Claymoore, a psychiatric hospital outside Boston, where she'll spend the next two years. There, Susanna meets some young woman who are truly disturbed, including compelling sociopath, Lisa (Jolie). Yes, the story's predictable but it's also touching--just don't expect the fireworks of "One Flew Over a Cuckoo's Nest." Based on the 1993 memoir by Susanna Kaysen.
