The Brothers Quay's first live-action feature is a surreal nightmareish fairytale based on the 1905 novel "Jakob von Gunten" by Robert Waiser. Jakob (Rylance) arrives at the secluded Institute Benjamenta, which is run by Lisa (Krige) and her brother Johannes (John), to train as a servant. He becomes a favorite of the enigmatic duo and tries to decide what is real and what isn't. Eccentric and wonderfully photographed by Knowland.
