Joseph Ambrose Hilditch (Hoskins) is a mild-mannered, fastidious, middle-aged Brit whose mother problems have turned him into a serial killer. He's a catering manager who watches tapes of his flamboyant late mother Gala's (Khanjian) cooking show, where young Hilditch was an embarassed foil. Into his structured world stumbles pregnant Irish teen, Felicia (Cassidy), who's trying to find the father of her baby. Hilditch begins to take a warped interest in Felicia, who may be naive but who isn't dumb. Cold and elegant adaptation of William Trevor's novel.
