Teacher Kieran Johnson (Caan) decides to research his Irish roots after discovering a photo of his mother with a mystery man who may have been his father. Told in flashback, it portraits the class differences in rural Ireland in the '30s and the doomed romance between wealthy, teenaged Fiona Flynn (Farrelly) and Kieran O'Dea (Quinn), a poor tenant farmer who works for the Flynn family. Affecting role for Aidan Quinn, who worked with brothers Paul and Declan. Script is based on a story Theresa Quinn told her children.
