Coming Out Movie Review 1989

The first film produced by East Germany to deal with homosexuality. Ambivalent Philip (Freihof) is a popular high school educator, who has been involved with another teacher, Tanja (Manzel), who has just learned she's pregnant. But Philip has just admitted to himself that his attraction to the younger Matthias (Kummer) is more erotic than friendly. Philip, however, is an emotional coward--he's worried about prejudice and can't be honest with either lover, leading to a painful confrontation. German with subtitles.
