In Too Deep Movie Review 1999

Omar Epps and LL Cool J rise above the tired formula in this by-the-book undercover cop/paranoid drug dealer crime drama. Young Cincinnati cop Jef Cole (Epps) is working undercover in a drug ring run by a none-too-humble crime lord who calls himself God (LL Cool J). As he tries to gain the confidence of God, Cole becomes so deeply mired in the gangster life that his commander Boyd (Tucci) begins to question his loyalty. Epps does an excellent job conveying the tension in his character's position, although the script is totally devoid of any kind of plot twist to help him out. Also shining in minor parts are Pam Grier as a veteran detective and Nia Long as the standard issue love interest.
