Adventure set in the 17th century features English noblewoman Lady Dona (Fontaine) fleeing her spineless husband Harry St. Columb (Forbes) and his lecherous friend, Lord Rockingham (Rathbone). She finds a Frenchman's ship anchored in a creek off her country estate and becomes dazzled by its dashing pirate captain (de Cordova). Unfortunately, the pirate is also a spy (since the Frenchies and the Brits are fighting as usual) and Rockingham discovers their secrets. When the Frenchman is captured, Lady Dona risks all to rescue him. Based on the novel by Daphne du Maurier and remade for British TV in 1998.
