A true crime story set in mid-19th century England. Dr. William Palmer (Allen) appears to be a successful surgeon with a devoted wife, Annie (Ashbourne), and happy family. But the doctor has a secret passion for racehorses and gambling and his good life is about to crumble because of his debts. So what's his solution? Why, murder of course, so Palmer can collect on various insurance policies and dispose of his gambling rivals.
