El Hazard: The Magnificent World, Vol. 1 Movie Review 1995

In "The First Night: Battlefield of Confusion," ancient ruins are discovered under an ordinary high school. That evening, Student Council President Jinnai lures Makoto, who he considers his rival, to school for a confrontation. Meanwhile, Jinnai's enterprising sister Nanami is selling a boxed dinner to the on-duty teacher Mr. Fujisawa. The ruins open and the next thing Makoto knows, he and Mr. Fujisawa are in a beautiful world unlike anything either of them has ever seen. So begins this four-volume fantasy that has comedy, romance, action and a serious side, plus great animation and an irresistible setting. The first episode does an excellent job of introducing the characters and the situations while providing an intriguing story in its own right.
