First American indie production to be shot in Vietnam with native-speaking actors since the war (by Vietnam-born, U.S.-raised director Bui in his feature debut) has a number of beautiful shots but not much story to back it up. Bustling Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) sets the stage for the intertwining fortunes of five characters: young flower seller Kien An (Hiep), street kid Woody (Duoc), cyclo driver Hai (Duong), prostitute Lan (Bui), and ex-Marine Hager (Keitel), who's searching for his Amer-Asian daughter.
