After his wife and son are killed in a terrorist bombing, an American officer (Quaid) turns mercenary and assumes a new identity. As Guy, he's a soulless killing machine, working for the Serbs in Bosnia. At a prisoner exchange, he is told to take a pregnant young Serbian woman, Vera (Ninkovic), back to her village. Guy winds up delivering the baby and protecting Vera on their hazardous (and ultimately tragic) journey as he slowly regains flickers of his own humanity. Excellent change-of-pace performance by Quaid in a gut-wrenching film inspired by a true story.
