Frozen Movie Review 1998

Flashback look at the suicide of struggling Beijing performance artist Qi Lei (Hongshen), who dies by freezing himself to death in an "ice burial" as part of his art. Focuses on the aftermath of Tienanmen Square and its disaffected younger generation. Mandarin with subtitles. Working without authorization, the director hid behind a pseudonym that translates as "No Name." The film was smuggled out of China and completed in Amsterdam.
