Orphaned Lily (Dietrich) is living with her elderly Aunt Rasmussen (Skipworth) in Berlin and falling for sculptor, Richard (Aherne). He wants her to pose for a nude statue, based on the Song of Solomon, after getting a gander at Lily's legs. However, wealthy Baron von Merzbach (Atwill), who's Richard's art patron, eventually persuades both Aunt and Richard that Lily needs a better life than either can offer. Their marriage has the Baron making Lily over, so she'll socially be a worthy Baroness, but these situations never work out as anticipated. Based on the novel by Hermann Sudermann and the play by Edward Sheldon.
