Dietrich vamps as money-hungry beauty Concha Perez, who soon has best friends and fellow military officers Pasqual (Atwill) and Antonio (Romero) dueling for her dubious affections. Turns out the man she desires may not be the man she truly needs. Flashbacks show how Concha seductively destroyed Pasquel some years earlier and how his jealousy lingered on. Based on the novel "The Woman and the Puppet" by Pierre Louys. After protests by the Spanish government over the depiction of the Spanish military, Paramount agreed to supress the film and few prints survived.
