The adorable Barrymore takes on Cinderella, renamed Danielle and very capable, in this not-quite-a-fairytale version set in 16th-century France. Huston's the peeved stepmom, Rodmilla, who reduces Danielle to the role of servant in her own home after her beloved father (Krabbe) dies. Danielle still falls for handsome Prince Henry (Scott), only she's not above trying to change the arrogant snob's opinions and tweak him about his privileged upbringing. Artist/genius Leonardo da Vinci (Godfrey) serves as the prince's confidante and there's still a lovely masked ball and a shoe to be lost (and found).
