In the not-too-grand tradition of "Caddyshack II," "Son of the Pink Panther," and "Blues Brothers 2000" they waited too long. And like the others, they shouldn't have even bothered. Oscar (Matthau) and Felix (Lemmon) reunite when their respective kids (Silverman as Oscar's son, Waltz as Felix's daughter) marry. Meeting at LAX, the duo immediately falls into the old routine of annoying each other and, this time out, the audience. Simon fills his script with leftover road movie cliches and vaudeville jokes, leaving Lemmon and Matthau nothing to do but mug and yell. Since almost everything these two have done together since the original has been a de facto sequel, it's a shame that the real thing falls so flat.
