McHale is conspicuously missing from this sequel (Borgnine had a contract dispute) so second banana Conway, as Ensign Charles Parker, gets to shine in slapstick gags. A drunken Parker winds up in an Air Force uniform and is mistaken for a hot-shot flier, gets involved with some Russians, and is even cited for bravery by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
