Feel-good working-class drama follows Sheffield-born Jimmy Muir (Bean), whose life revolves around a job in a brewery, the local pub, chasing girls, and playing football (soccer) on the weekends. He gets involved with co-worker Annie (Lloyd), whose Uncle Ken (Postlethwaite) coaches the local semi-pro team and who offers Jimmy a chance to play. His success leads to a trial with the pros, Sheffield United, which Jimmy blows by getting drunk. After losing his job, his girl, and having his brother die in an accident, Jimmy struggles to pull himself together, and maybe get a second chance.
