British miniseries details the life of 19th-century colonialist, British-born Cecil Rhodes (Shaw), who makes his money in the South African diamond trade and decides to place as much African territory under Britain's flag as possible. Rhodes succeeded in begetting the nation of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), became involved in the bloody Boer War, and established the prestigious Rhodes scholarship at Oxford University.
