Surrealist film features Mastroianni in four roles. Salesman Mateo Strano walks out on his wife Maria (Paredes) and doesn't see her for 20 years. When he finally returns, Mateo wants her back, although Maria's got a new husband, Andre (Atkine). Then there's Georges Vickers, negative anthropology professor-turned street tramp who takes up with hooker Tania (Galiena), who also has another identity. Then he's a butler who's trying to murder a young couple and steal their child and finally, Mastroianni's a rich industrialist who seems to be suffering from multiple personalities. And yes, somehow all the stories do tie together. French with subtitles.
