Former big-time Brisbane DJ and 70s refugee Ken Sherry (Shevtsov) arrives in a sleepy Australian backwater town, setting off a rivalry between two bored sisters, Dimity (Otto) and Vicki-Ann (Frith). Fishing is one of their hobbies and metaphorically, Ken is the big fish in a very little pond. To them, his pretentious disco-era schmooze comes off as sophistication, mostly because he uses Barry White lyrics and his pillow-talk DJ voice to sell it. Critically speaking, director/writer Barrett's debut demonstrates a keen ear for dialogue and comic timing. To the average viewer though, this one's a dog, boring and very strange. If you're looking for a good Aussie comedy rent "Strictly Ballroom" or "Muriel's Wedding" instead.
